On Wednesday, the Abeokuta High Court found 22-year-old Jamiu Malomo guilty of the murder of sex worker Asisat Akande and sentenced him to death by hanging.

According to ZINGTIE, Malomo killed the dead by stabbing him with a knife after a disagreement arose from his refusal to pay the remaining N2,000.

After gaining sexual knowledge of the deceased, the prisoner paid N8,000 rather than the N10,000 that was originally agreed upon.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 18, 2021, the incident took place at the Ori-Apata neighbourhood in Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta.

Malomo, who was eighteen at the time of the occurrence, entered a not guilty plea to the charge and was found guilty of one count of murder.

Justice O. Ogunfowora found Malomo guilty in his ruling, concluding that the prosecution had established its case beyond a reasonable doubt that he was guilty of the offence as charged.

Malomo was condemned to death by hanging when the judge determined that the prosecution’s evidence was credible.

He said, “You are hereby guilty of killing Asisat Akande as preferred against you. You will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on you.”

Earlier in the trial, state prosecution attorney Mr. A.M. Adebayo, Deputy Director Public Prosecution, claimed that the prisoner had taken deceased sex worker Asisat Akande from a Panseke neighbourhood pub to his home for sex.

“After having carnal knowledge of the deceased, she demanded for N10,000 which was their agreement, but he refused to give her the the complete money saying he had N8,000.

“The situation led to an argument between him and the deceased, which made the convict to bring out a knife from his pocket and stab her on the neck.

“The stab resulted to the instant death of the deceased,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offender was detained by police officers at the 3AD club in Panseke because he intended to choose another girl for sex.

According to him, the offence violated Section 316 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006, and was penalised by Section 319.
