Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate, has characterized Nasir El-Rufai, the party’s newest member, as a valuable asset with a track record of excellent public service.

The SDP leader made this claim while praising his intellectual acumen on Tuesday’s episode of The Morning Brief on Channels Television.

Adebayo, however, said the two term governor of Kaduna State and former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has some shortcomings to work on.

“The issue is that I see him as an asset, as a hard-working person and he has a verifiable and measurable track record of public performance,” the SDP chieftain said.

“What I believe is that he has his weaknesses which he needs to work on but I am not his mentor or therapist.

“What I know is that Nigerians have a bird’s eye view of El-Rufai, they will consider some of the comments that he’s made and some other aspects. Overall, Nigerians will say: ‘Here is a very good public servant.”

Recall that El-Rufai, a political heavyweight from the north and one of Bola Tinubu’s staunchest supporters in the 2023 presidential election, announced on Monday that he had defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC, to the SDP, one of the opposition parties.

The former governor of Kaduna claimed that the APC had forgotten the goals and aspirations of its founders. El-Rufai was a part of the 2013 party merger that created the APC.
