The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the judiciary will ultimately decide whether the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly is legally valid.

Wike explained that the issue is currently being addressed in court, where the constitutionality of the President’s directive is under legal scrutiny.

He noted that approximately eleven lawsuits have been filed to challenge the legal basis of the emergency declaration in Rivers State.

During a live media session with selected journalists on Friday, Wike acknowledged that, both personally and politically, he is displeased with the declaration of an emergency in his state of origin.

Nonetheless, he recognized that the Nigerian Constitution grants the President the authority to declare a state of emergency if the situation demands it.
