Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has ordered its students to immediately vacate two privately-run female hostels due to serious security threats and breaches of university standards. The hostels, Al-Ansar Indabo Female Students Hostels, had their approvals withdrawn by the university over issues ranging from immoral activities to poor living conditions and lack of compliance with operational guidelines.

In a statement, the Vice President of Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, said, “I am directed by the management to write, inform, and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents/students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo Female Students Hostels.” The decision was taken totect the well-being of students and reinforce the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct
Dr. Garba noted that the management took the step following reports of “immoral activities, insufficient water and power supply, student violence, unauthorised late-night movements, and the presence of unknown tenants sharing facilities.” He added, “These developments pose a serious threat to the well-being of our students.”

The university has advised parents and students to seek accommodation through officially approved hostels listed by the Office of the Vice President of Campus Life. Dr. Garba warned that the university will not be held responsible for incidents resulting from non-compliance with the directive. “The affected students must vacate the premises immediately after the completion of their fall semester examinations,” he said.
The management also disclosed that it is working with relevant security agencies to ensure full compliance with the closure order.
