The Nigerian government has confirmed the capture of several individuals listed as wanted by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

The Federal Government, through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed that these criminals, who were on INTERPOL’s red list, were arrested at Nigerian airports.

Tunji-Ojo explained that the arrests, which took place over the span of two days, occurred as the suspects were entering Nigeria.

The Minister made this announcement in Lagos during the regional workshop on Maritime Border Security.

“I can tell you to a large extent, we’ve built robust database, and we are reaping the fruits. Now, it will interest you that in the last couple of weeks , within two days, a lot of people on the Interpol red list were arrested at our airports preventing them from coming in,” he said.

“One came from Italy, another one from Ireland, while others are from a couple of countries.

“They would have entered Nigeria if it were 18 years ago, but now we know that in terms of our air terminals, they are in sync because it is integrated into central system.”
