Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the prompt repair of the Iwo-Osogbo road.

He indicated that the immediate efforts would focus on the most damaged parts of the road as a temporary measure until full reconstruction can be carried out.

This instruction was made public through a statement by Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke’s spokesperson, on Saturday, following reports of worsening conditions on the road—especially with the current rainy season making several sections nearly impossible to pass.

According to the statement, the governor directed the Ministry of Works to quickly address the most affected areas to improve travel conditions for drivers.

“The road now has multiple gullies and in some places appears almost split into two,” the statement read.

It also revealed that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works sent a group of engineers to evaluate the extent of the damage and develop a focused rehabilitation strategy.

“The rehabilitation work on the worst portions of the road is set to commence on Tuesday as part of temporary measures before the full-scale reconstruction begins,” he said.

Adeleke revealed that the procurement for the road’s complete reconstruction is almost finalized, assuring residents of his dedication to a lasting solution.

“To accelerate delivery, we have decided to divide the existing contract into three lots and assign them to three companies, including the original contractor,” the governor stated.

He further stated that once contractors are mobilized and work starts fully, the project is anticipated to be completed within a year.

It was gathered that the road project was first awarded toward the end of the Adegboyega Oyetola administration, with only a segment finished based on the funds available at that time.

Governor Adeleke who stressed the importance of adhering to proper procurement procedures, noted, “We are slow because we have a duty to strictly comply with due process and the procurement laws.

“Our people in Iwo, Ayedire, Olaoluwa, Ejigbo, Egbedore, and Ede local governments should be rest assured that this administration will break the jinx and complete the project,” he said.
