A media story that claimed former Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) had sponsored Chief Bulus Maiyaki for the Southern Taraba Senate seat in 2027 was refuted by the Southern Taraba People’s Assembly, which called it the creation of political mischief makers.

Comrade Ishaku Danlami, the group’s National Coordinator, denounced the publishing in a statement released in Jalingo on Friday, claiming it was intended to sow discord among the sociopolitical interests in the area, increase needless political tension, and cause confusion.

The rumor’s creators, according to Danlami, are a group of “desperate politicians” who see Chief Maiyaki’s rising popularity as a challenge to their dwindling political power.

He charged that they fostered animosity between tribes instead of leaving any lasting legacy from their tenure in public office.

He claims that Maiyaki has been the target of these same people for a long time, going all the way back to the former governor Jolly Nyame’s government, when he was given important posts.

Despite efforts to marginalize him under the late Governor Danbaba Suntai, Danlami pointed out that Maiyaki managed to land a position at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), where he is now Director of Procurement and has a significant impact on a number of rural electrification projects throughout Southern Taraba.

The group emphasized that Chief Maiyaki satisfies all the standards to represent Southern Taraba at the National Assembly and that TY Danjuma is recognized for backing competent candidates rather than giving political endorsements.

Attempts to use Danjuma’s name in political promotion were also cautioned against.

Due to his civil service status, Maiyaki has not publicly stated his political aspirations; however, the group stated that increasing consultations and general goodwill suggest that he may become a unifying candidate in 2027.
