The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained two senior officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over alleged financial misconduct linked to the 2025 hajj operations. Aliu Abdulrazak, Commissioner of Policy, Personnel, and Finance, and Aminu Y. Muhammed, Director of Finance and Accounts, were invited by the EFCC for questioning.

NAHCON has since warned against media trial, emphasising its commitment to accountability and cooperation with anti-graft agencies. “The Commission remains focused on post-Hajj evaluations, addressing operational challenges, and strengthening measures to ensure even better service delivery in future Hajj operations,” said Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publication at NAHCON.

The commission described the allegations as unverified, assuring that it won’t shield any staff found wanting. “The Commission would not shield any staff or process found wanting,” Usara stated. NAHCON reaffirmed its dedication to serving Nigerian pilgrims and the nation with the highest sense of responsibility, honesty, and accountability ¹.

In a separate development, a businessman, Duru Ikechukwu Damian, was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment for failing to declare $49,000 to the Nigerian Customs Service at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Justice Dehinde Dipeolu ordered the forfeiture of the entire $49,000 to the Federal Government after Damian pleaded guilty to a one-count charge filed by the EFCC.

The EFCC is investigating alleged financial misconduct involving over ₦50 billion under NAHCON’s current leadership, with stakeholders calling for comprehensive investigation and prosecution to ensure recovery of misappropriated funds and accountability
