Petroleum retailers in Eleme are up in arms over the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, visiting the NLNG facility in Rivers State without stopping by the Port Harcourt refinery.

The retailers, under the Host Communities Bulk Retailers Association of Port Harcourt Refinery, expressed shock and disappointment at Ojulari’s decision, saying it showed a lack of appreciation for the refinery’s contributions to the nation’s economy.

“A visit to the Port Harcourt refinery would have boosted morale and demonstrated commitment to its success,” they said. The retailers urged Ojulari to visit the refinery to familiarize himself with its operations and challenges

This isn’t the first time Ojulari’s handling of the refinery has come under fire. Eastern Zonal Secretary of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Emmanuel Inimgba, recently called on Ojulari to fix the refinery or resign, citing concerns over delayed maintenance and job losses.

“If the GCEO can’t fix the refinery or show commitment to its rehabilitation, stakeholders may have to ask President Tinubu to consider replacing him,” Inimgba warned.

The NNPC’s silence on the matter has only added fuel to the fire, with the company’s failure to appoint a new spokesperson leaving journalists and stakeholders without an official channel for responses
