Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a section that supports Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, have been advised nationwide to abstain from the upcoming national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The group maintained that the procedure was void according to a recent court ruling. This occurs in the context of a lawsuit brought by former governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido, which resulted in a court ruling that the Wike bloc claims has created new legal ambiguity over the convention.
Timothy Osadolor, the faction’s acting national youth leader, told Vanguard that the party cannot lawfully hold the Ibadan meeting until internal conflicts are settled and stakeholders reach a consensus on the next course of action.
“Well, I’ve told you before. What they are doing in Ibadan is just an early Christmas party. But again, even the early Christmas parties are still not going to hold,” he said.
He claimed that the decision made earlier on Tuesday further damaged the event’s reputation.
“I’m sure you are aware of the court pronouncements from the suit filed by former governor Sule Lamido earlier today. That has also told them that the early Christmas party is not even properly constituted and organised,” he added.
The PDP youth leader advised party members across the country not to take the chance of traveling or spending money on an exercise that, in his opinion, had no organizational or legal basis.
