Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, an Afrobeats singer, has ignited controversy by advocating for the death penalty for rapists.

In recent weeks, Nigeria has been facing a sexual assault crisis, with numerous rape allegations surfacing from various regions across the country.

After the incident on Tuesday night, Simi fervently called upon both citizens and authorities to stop sexual assault against women.

“I’m sickkk of this. Stop raping women. They need to castrate rapists and burn them,” she wrote in a fierce X post.

Her proposal of capital punishment for rapists, however, ignited a debate, with numerous individuals contending that false rape accusers should face the same consequence.

Simi asserted that her advocacy was for rape victims, not those who were falsely accused of rape, which intensified the controversy.

Ignoring the anger from her male fans, the singer clarified that she was supporting rape victims, as nearly all the women she knew had been “sexually assaulted at some points of their lives.”

She contended that halting people from speaking out against sexual assault due to false rape accusations is unjust.

“How many of your friends have actually assaulted women as vibes?? Women are terrified to go out. Women in their homes are not safe either. Ask your sisters. Ask your female friends and your girlfriends. Ask your wives. We’re not all crazy. Stop raping women,” she added.

Simi further encouraged men to ensure their peers are answerable for their actions, asserting that the lack of accountability among men contributes to the creation of circumstances that allow rapists to thrive.
