In Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, an explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) resulted in injuries to a soldier and a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, revealed this on X.

According to Makama, the event took place at approximately 8:35 am on March 18 during a coordinated operation involving soldiers from the 34 Artillery Brigade in the Orsu vicinity.

The source states that the personnel were working in the vicinity of a suspected hideout of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed faction, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), when they triggered a hidden pressure-activated IED by stepping on it.

It mentioned that the device exploded, resulting in injuries to both operatives.

“They were immediately administered first aid and subsequently evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.

“Operations are ongoing in the area to dismantle criminal hideouts and enhance safety,” the source said.
