Former Turkey international, Erman Toroğlu, has criticized Okan Buruk for Galatasaray’s recent inconsistency, which has followed the injury of Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen suffered an arm injury during the second leg of Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League match against Liverpool at Anfield in March, which has kept him sidelined at a critical point in the season.
With Osimhen unavailable, the Yellow-Reds have struggled to maintain their form, managing only one win in their last three league matches.
In this period, Galatasaray suffered a 2-1 defeat to Trabzonspor, recorded a 3-1 victory against Göztepe, and played out a 1-1 draw with Kocaelispor.
Toroğlu, speaking to Habersarikirmizi, expressed discontent with Buruk’s handling of the team, suggesting that the squad has become overly reliant on Osimhen.
“There was Icardi, there was Osimhen, there was Okan Buruk. Now Osimhen is absent, Okan Buruk is absent. It’s that simple,” Toroğlu said.
“If you depend too heavily on just one player in such a large squad, the responsibility is yours. Okan Buruk has failed to manage this team. Osimhen was the one leading you on the pitch.”
Toroğlu also raised issues with how Buruk has handled Icardi, stating that the Argentine striker has struggled with his form due to inconsistent playing time.
“You tried to sub Icardi in the 89th minute because Osimhen was around, and you sidelined him. You made this move, you made that move, yet your team just didn’t perform,” he added.
Osimhen has resumed training and is expected to return to action before the end of the month.
The Nigerian forward is likely to be fit for the match against Fenerbahçe, with signs pointing to him being included in the squad for the upcoming game against Gençlerbirliği.
His return could provide a much-needed boost for Buruk as Galatasaray seeks to regain momentum in the title race following recent dropped points.
