Panic briefly spread across Lagos State after reports emerged of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, warning of a planned abduction of pupils, prompting an immediate response from security authorities.
However, the Lagos State Police Command has assured residents that there is no credible intelligence indicating any imminent bandit attack on schools or other locations within the state.
This assurance was contained in a statement issued on June 8, 2026, by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.
According to the statement, the Command became aware of reports concerning a notice that allegedly threatened an attack on a school and promptly commenced actions to evaluate the situation.
The police explained that, based on available intelligence, there is currently no confirmed information suggesting that any bandit group is planning an operation within Lagos State.
Nevertheless, the Command emphasized that all security concerns are being taken seriously and treated with the utmost urgency.
The statement further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, directed an immediate review of the reported threat and ordered the implementation of enhanced security measures in the affected area and other key locations across the state.
As part of the response, security personnel working in collaboration with other agencies have been deployed to schools, critical facilities, and various communities to reinforce safety measures.
“The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement said.
The police also reiterated that Lagos remains safe and secure, warning that anyone attempting to spread fear, panic, or insecurity among residents would face the full weight of the law.
“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents,” the statement added.
Residents were encouraged to remain alert and continue supporting security efforts by providing useful and timely information to relevant authorities.
The Command stressed that cooperation from the public remains vital in preventing criminal activities and sustaining peace across the state.
It also advised residents to immediately report any suspicious individuals, unusual movements, or questionable activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s designated emergency channels.
