Samuel Jacob, often known as Sammie, was a housemate of Big Brother Naija. Since leaving the reality TV show, he has openly discussed his battles with depression and financial difficulties.
The reality star disclosed that he struggled with depression multiple times while attempting to adapt to life after the show in an emotional video that was shared on Instagram.
Sammie claimed that he frequently sobbed by himself in his Lekki apartment, overcome by the harsh reality of Lagos living, despite the public’s impression of his success.
“A year after the show, I lost count of how many times I felt depressed. I would sit alone in my house in Lekki and just cry. A grown man like me with beards, crying and asking God why. Some days I’d thank Him, other days I’d just break down.”
The reality star acknowledged that his problems were made worse by financial instability, pointing out that he frequently got more debit alerts than credit ones.
“There was barely money coming in, but I still had a life to maintain. It messed with my head,” he said.
Sammie clarified that his plans were upset and that he was unsure about his future after quitting college to appear on the Big Brother Naija show.
“I was in Lagos, trying to live up to the ‘star boy’ tag, but there was no real income,” he recalled.
He also talked about times when he felt abandoned while everyone else seemed to be doing well.
“You’d see young guys pulling up in their G-Wagons while I will now chop my indomie, wear my fine shirt nobody will know what I’m going through,” Sammie added.
