AACE Foods Processing and Distribution Limited has launched a transformative training program aimed at empowering smallholder farmers and agastro-transporters in Nigeria. This initiative seeks to promote sustainable agricultural practices, reduce food loss and waste, and enhance food security and nutrition within local communities.¹
According to Gloria Nsuji Nwabuike, Managing Director of AACE Foods Processing and Distribution Limited, “Agriculture is at the heart of Nigeria’s economy, and reducing food loss and waste is critical to achieving food security.” She emphasised that this training initiative demonstrates their commitment to equipping farmers and agro-transporters with the necessary tools and knowledge to drive sustainable growth, strengthen livelihoods, and enhance resilience in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
The program aims to train 2,500 lead farmers and 50 agrotransporters, who will then train an additional 7,500 farmers. Ultimately, the goal is to impact over 10,000 farmers, including women. As Nwabuike concluded, “This initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s food systems, promoting sustainability, and empowering local communities.”
The initiative focuses on strengthening the livelihoods and economic resilience of key players within Nigeria’s agricultural value chain. Through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and innovative techniques, AACE Foods Processing and Distribution Limited aims to address food waste and post-harvest losses while promoting long-term sustainability.
Key objectives of the program include:
– *Promoting Sustainable Practices*: Enhance awareness and implementation of sustainable agricultural practices among smallholder farmers.
– *Reducing Food Loss and Waste*: Minimise food loss and waste through improved handling, storage, and processing methods.
– *Enhancing Food Security and Nutrition*: Improve food security and nutritional outcomes within local communities.
– *Strengthening Collaboration*: Foster a more robust and efficient agricultural ecosystem through collaboration among stakeholders.
The program is designed to equip farmers and agro-transporters with the necessary skills and knowledge to improve their agricultural practices, reduce food loss and waste, and enhance food security and nutrition.
“We recognise the critical role that agriculture plays in Nigeria’s economy, and we are committed to supporting smallholder farmers and agro-transporters in their efforts to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the country’s food security,” said Gloria Nsuji Nwabuike, Managing Director of AACE Foods Processing and Distribution Limited.
“With this program, we aim to empower 2,500 lead farmers and 50 agrotransporters, who will then train an additional 7,500 farmers. Ultimately, we hope to impact over 10,000 farmers, including women, and contribute to the improvement of Nigeria’s agricultural sector,” Nwabuike added.
The program will focus on promoting good agricultural practices, improving handling, storage, and processing methods, and enhancing food security and nutritional outcomes. It will also provide training on business management, marketing, and financial literacy.
“We believe that by providing smallholder farmers and agro-transporters with the necessary skills and knowledge, we can help them to improve their productivity, increase their incomes, and contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector,” Nwabuike said.
The program is expected to have a significant impact on Nigeria’s agricultural sector, and AACE Foods Processing and Distribution Limited is committed to supporting the country’s efforts to improve food security and reduce poverty.
“We are proud to be part of this initiative, and we look forward to working with smallholder farmers and agro-transporters to achieve our goals,” Nwabuike concluded.
