According to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, Nigeria would have been in a better position than it is now if Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, had been elected.

According to Abaribe, under an Obi administration, nepotism—which flourishes under President Bola Tinubu—would not have existed.

The legislator said this during Monday’s episode of Politics Today on Channels Television.

“If Peter Obi had won, you probably would have seen a better Nigeria than what we are seeing today

“Number one, he would not be as nepotistic as this government, he won’t, it’s not in him. That is just who we are, we feel for the other people,” he said.

Abaribe questioned Tinubu’s selection of four ministers from Ogun State alone, when many other states only have one, while defending his allegation of nepotism against the president.

He claimed that Buhari followed the nepotism road, but that because Buhari did it and no one spoke up, it grew worse under President Tinubu.

The senator went on to say that instead of waiting for presidents to treat the people of the South-East fairly, it is time for the locals to return and redesign the area to make it better, more habitable, and more unified.

Except for Obasanjo and Jonathan, he noted, no president has treated the people fairly, and the people cannot wait for that to happen.

Abaribe called the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-declared prime minister of Biafra in exile, in Finland a positive step.

He claimed that Ekpa’s arrest would serve as a warning to those at home who support violence and are being incited by the Biafran agitator located in Finland, who denied being the Biafran prime minister after his arrest.

The lawmaker went on to say that Ekpa and his associates’ attempts to control from abroad have always been denounced by the Igbo.

According to Senator Abaribe, Nnamdi Kanu’s release will also put an end to the unrest in the South-East.

After Kanu is freed, he claimed, many of the people using his name to commit acts of violence will have no motivation to carry on.
