The APC State Secretary, Chidi Avajah, and the interim Ward Chairman, Sylvester Onyekwere, have been suspended for six months, according to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ahiaukwu Ward 2, Umuahia South LGA, Abia State.
In a statement signed by Nwabueze Ndumele and Mr Ifeanyichukwu John Iteogu, the party leaders who were suspended were accused of violating the constitution and operating a parallel executive.
According to the Ward leaders, the executive committee approved a disciplinary panel’s recommendation following thorough deliberation and consultation. The two were also prohibited from representing the party for a period of six months.
However, the suspended Secretary and the former acting Chairman may be given another chance at reinstatement after six months if they show remorse, according to Ahiaukwu Ward 2.
Internal conflicts within the APC’s Ahiaukwu Ward 2 erupted last month when the party dismissed Avajah for allegedly designating Sylvester Onyekwere as acting Ward 2 chairman without first contacting the executives elected by the congress.
Recall that Kingsley Ononogbu, the APC Chairman in Abia State, had already declared the suspension of Avajah and Onyekwere to be void, claiming that the members of Ahiaukwu Ward 2 had not acted in accordance with due process.
He stated that it contravened Section 31 Subsection 5(111) of the APC constitution.
