Abia: Officials uncover shocking discovery inside Aba building

The Abia State Government has sealed a building in Aba after environmental officials discovered about 100 bags filled with human faeces within the premises.

Officials of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA, Aba Zone, reportedly made the discovery at No. 16 Ibadan Street on Tuesday.

According to ASEPA, the bags were kept inside the compound of a public house, raising concerns over the potential risk of an epidemic outbreak.

The environmental officials also found four basins containing human excreta in the corridor of the building.

Following the discovery, the state government agency immediately sealed the premises to enable officials to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The agency said the discovery became more disturbing after a sewage tank was found inside one of the rooms downstairs, directly beneath a bed occupied by residents.

The statement from ASEPA read in part: “Even more disturbing, a sewage tank was discovered inside one of the downstairs rooms, directly beneath a bed where occupants sleep daily, despite being aware of the situation.

“This is not merely an environmental violation; it is a serious public health concern capable of triggering an epidemic if left unchecked.

“In a decisive move to prevent a possible outbreak and protect public health, the premises have been sealed today, 18th August 2026, pursuant to a court order, pending the necessary corrective measures.

“The premises will be unsealed once the appropriate requirements have been met,” ASEPA said.

The reason behind the storage of the human waste has not been established as investigations continue.

However, some residents who reacted to ASEPA’s social media post alleged that the bags of faeces were being sold to farmers for N10,000 each for use as manure.
