Abubakar Yesufu, the former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki’s attorney, has denied reports that Obaseki left the nation to evade an inquiry.

Yesufu clarified that Obaseki visited the UK on a medical tour in an interview with Silverbird TV that began at 1:00.

Yesufu disclosed that he had a meeting with Obaseki before to his travel in the video that Silver Bird TV released. “He invited me to his house and told me I should be the center point of his defense. He said he was going for a medical tour because, for the past eight years, he hadn’t had the chance to prioritize his health,” Yesufu stated.

Prior to his two stints as governor of Edo State, Obaseki led the state’s economic team. Yesufu claims that the former governor had little time for personal health care because of his dedication to his job throughout the years. The attorney emphasised, “The idea that he absconded is completely false.”

Yesufu praised Obaseki’s conduct when questioned about the practice of former governors vanishing from the public eye following their terms, frequently using medical vacations as a justification. According to him, they spoke for nearly two hours and discussed a wide range of subjects, including Obaseki’s thoughts on his tenure in office.

“I asked him if he had any regrets after ruling Edo State for eight years. He said he didn’t, following the teachings of historical figures like Plutarch and Oscar Wilde . He said he doesn’t regret his past actions, even if some may criticize him,” Yesufu added.

Yesufu promised that after his medical visit was over, Obaseki would undoubtedly return to Nigeria.
