The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, may lose Nyesom Wike’s backing in the upcoming Area Council elections in Abuja, according to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT.
At a Friday media parley in Abuja, Wike made this claim while pointing out that the party was essentially unprepared for the general elections in 2027.
He mentioned the main opposition’s internal conflict and impunity.
Wike added that one of the main reasons for the PDP’s current situation was the party’s lack of sincere dedication to opposition politics.
Despite its influence, Wike pointed out that the PDP Governors Forum was only a pressure group and not a party institution.
The Minister said, “For you to say I want to lead the opposition party is not by mouth. You have to sacrifice a lot of things”.
He then issued a warning, saying that the party’s internal problems might force him to stop supporting it in the next FCT Area Council elections.
He said, “If the PDP does not keep their house in order, I will not support them for the Area Council election.”
