Adamawa orders removal of attachments from Yola main market

Owners of attachments and other temporary structures in Yola, the state capital’s main market, have been ordered by the Adamawa State Government to take them down and leave the area.

The instruction comes before the market is scheduled to close temporarily for a sanitation exercise, which will also entail the demolition of similar buildings.

The goal of the cleanup effort at the Jimeta Modern Market, according to the Adamawa State Urban and Regional Planning Board, is to restore the market’s master plan.

The two days for the temporary closure were set for Wednesday and Thursday, September 3 and 4, 2025.

“This notice serves as a warning to all owners of attachments and temporary structures within and outside the market,” the notice reads.

The board apologized for the difficulty the closure would give to the public, but emphasized that it would not spare any such structures if owners did not remove them.

Originally built with internal lanes wide enough for cars and trucks, the Jimeta Modern Market has been so restricted by attachments placed in front of nearly every store that even pedestrians find it difficult to navigate, according to ZINGTIE Post.

Although a number of earlier attempts to destroy the unlawful structures were unsuccessful, this will be the first time a dramatic step like temporarily closing the market is taken.
