A caretaker executive committee has been established by the Adamawa State African Democratic Congress (ADC) to manage the party’s operations until a new leadership is formally elected.
According to David Lawal Babachir, the ADC’s North East Zonal Vice Chairman, who presided over the inauguration, stakeholders decided to form an interim committee in order to stabilize the party and get it ready for the general elections in 2027.
Babachir, who was the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) under Muhammadu Buhari, clarified that the National Working Committee (NWC) had accepted the new structure following appropriate consultation and adherence to the party’s constitution.
“The leadership you see today is legitimate because it followed due process in line with the party’s constitution,” Babachir said.
He made it clear that the party will not accept disobedience or lack of discipline.
He claims that Senator David Mark, the ADC’s national chairman, has reiterated the party’s pledge to follow its constitution and issued a warning that anyone who disagrees with its tenets “has no place in the ADC.”
“Every politician must expect criticism, but that should not change our character or commitment to the party,” he said, urging unity among members.
Barrister Sadiq Dasin, the newly appointed interim chairman, thanked party leaders for their faith in his team in his acceptance address. The former federal politician, who was also the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, pledged to bring the party together and prioritize the involvement of women and young people.
Dasin called his rise “a child of necessity” and urged any members who felt wronged to back the new leadership. Given their critical role in our achievement, he promised that women and young people would have 60% of the elected seats in the upcoming congresses as we take on this obligation.
He also promised to make sure that the state’s future congresses would be open, equitable, and trustworthy.
