With Nafiu Bala taking over as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday, the party’s leadership crisis took a new turn.
At her return, Bala spoke to the media and identified himself as the genuine National Chairman of the ADC.
He clarified that when Ralph Nwosu resigned as the National Chairman of the ADC, he was the logical successor under the electoral legislation and the party’s constitution.
A few months ago, following the opposition coalition’s adoption of ADC, Nwosu resigned from his post.
David Mark was named the party’s Interim National Chairman following Nwosu’s resignation.
The ADC was allegedly hijacked by coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, according to Bala, the Deputy National Chairman.
However, Bala said: “As our party’s National leadership, we are not aware of any change of leadership.
“Our party’s former National chairman voluntarily resigned his position as the national Chairman of the party.
“Our party’s constitution is very clear on the transfer of power or what we can do when the party’s national chairman resigns.
“As far as our party is concerned, the electoral act and our party constitution says the deputy National Chairman can takeover the leadership of the party.
“I now resume office as the authentic National Chairman of our great party, the African Democratic Congress, APC.”
