In anticipation of the general elections in 2027, the African Democratic Congress, or ADC, and its coalition allies held a historic political meeting in Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday.

During the meeting, Abia State ADC chairman Don Norman Obinna declared that the party had been formally accepted as the foundation for the coalition’s political comeback.

He claims that this action is a reaction to years of poor governance, poor economic management, and disenfranchisement of citizens under the current APC government rather than just a political realignment.

“ADC is adopted as a coalition party to right the wrongs orchestrated by the APC. The unemployment rate is alarming, the naira is in a free fall, and the civil servants’ minimum wage is a national disgrace,” Don Norman declared.

He states that the coalition’s goal is to provide aid to the populace, eradicate hunger in Nigeria, and put the nation back on a path toward prosperity.

He advocated for visionary leadership based on honesty, fairness, and responsibility in order to free Abia and Nigeria as a whole.

“Since 1999, our ideology in Abia has been to bring in men of integrity who can rebuild Nigeria with justice and fairness,” he added. “Good governance must be rooted in probity and transparency.”

Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a political researcher and reform champion, gave the keynote presentation and emphasized the need of civic involvement and stakeholder engagement in determining Nigeria’s future.

Professor Afamefuna advocated for issue-based campaigns, equitable representation, and rotating leadership in response to the South East’s marginalization.

“We must not sell our votes for rice, wrappers, or fake promises. Only through citizen-led accountability can Nigeria chart a new course,” he said.

Rev. Blessed Amalambu, the ADC’s candidate for the Abia House of Assembly in 2023, added his voice and encouraged the coalition brokers to thoroughly vet candidates and prevent the entrance of dishonest political elements.
