AFCON 2023: Super Eagles become top-ranked team after Morocco’s exit

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are currently the top-ranked team participating in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

This comes after South Africa shocked Morocco on Tuesday night, winning 2-0.

Four of the top five teams on the continent had already been eliminated before the game. Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and Senegal were all abandoned.

The first African nation to advance past the World Cup group stage, Morocco, was the overwhelming favorite to defeat the Bafana Bafana.

However, the South Africans secured a remarkable victory over the Atlas Lions because of goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena in the second half.

Nigeria is currently the top-ranked team in the AFCON after Morocco was eliminated.

The Super Eagles were ranked sixth at the beginning of the competition.

The top-ranked team among the remaining eight teams is Jose Peseiro’s squad, followed by Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, South Africa, Congo DR, Cape Verde, Guinea, and Angola.
