AFCON 2023: Yusuf replaces injured Ndidi, Iheanacho not ruled out yet

Alhassan Yusuf, a player for Royal Antwerp in Belgium, has been officially confirmed to take Wilfred Ndidi’s place in Nigeria’s roster for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Yusuf is anticipated to report to the Super Eagles’ Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, camp on Wednesday. Yusuf was initially included in the team’s 41-man preliminary squad for the competition.

The midfielder has not previously been eligible for a Super Eagles call-up.

Ndidi suffered an injury before Leicester City’s New Year’s Day 4-1 victory over Huddersfield Town.

The 26-year-old has played in two AFCON finals for Nigeria.

His teammate Kelechi Iheanacho, who is recovering from a muscular injury, is anticipated to report to the Super Eagles camp prior to the AFCON.

Before the match, the Super Eagles had made camp in Abu Dhabi.
