Egypt has become the first country to reach the last 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

This comes after their close 1-0 victory over South Africa in a Group A match on Friday evening.

The Pharoahs began their campaign with a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe.

Egypt scored the game’s only goal in the first half against Bafana Bafana, thanks to a penalty kick conversion by Mohamed Salah.

Despite finishing the half with 10 men after Mohamed Hany was sent off, the North Africans managed to secure all three points.

They will now face Angola in their last group match, while South Africa faces Zimbabwe.
