African Games 2023: Nigeria wins six more medals in weightlifting

On Wednesday, Nigeria collected six additional medals in the weightlifting competition at the ongoing 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Desmond Akano and Adebayo Adeyemi won three silver and three bronze medals.

Desmond Akano, competing in the 96kg weight class, grabbed 145 kg and recorded 191 kilograms in the clean and jerk, for a total of 336 kg, the silver and two bronze medals.

Adeyemi received two medals, one silver and one bronze.

With a total of 241 kg, he grabbed 151 kg and recorded 190 kg in clean and jerk.

Their heroic efforts scaled Nigeria’s weightlifting medal collection to 26, now including 15 gold, five silver, and six bronze medals.
