Nigerian music heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, Shallipopi, Rema, and Ayra Starr have emerged as major contenders at the 2025 edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The nominations list, which features talent from across the continent, sees both Burna Boy and Davido leading the pack with five nominations each.
Burna Boy’s acclaimed project No Sign of Weakness and Davido’s album 5ive are both in the running for Album of the Year.
The two stars also earned nods in categories like Song of the Year and Best Collaboration for their chart-topping singles.
South African producer DJ Maphorisa received five nominations as well, including Album of the Year and Best African DJ, placing him on par with the Nigerian frontrunners.
Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto also received five nominations, thanks to his popular tracks Salgoat and Diplomatico.
Rising Nigerian street-pop star Shallipopi was recognized in four categories, including Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year.
In East Africa, Tanzanian icon Diamond Platnumz secured four nominations, continuing his strong presence in the region.
South African vocalist Tyla also garnered four nominations, while Tanzanian singer Juma Jux earned three, including a Song of the Year nod for Ololufe Mi.

Nigerian hitmakers Rema and Ayra Starr were each nominated in three categories, cementing their status as leading voices in Afrobeats.
Nigeria was earlier announced as the host nation for the 2025 AFRIMA ceremony, a move that reflects the country’s ongoing influence in Africa’s music industry.
