D’Tigress standout Amy Okonkwo has been awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title at the recently concluded 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament.
Okonkwo played a crucial role in Nigeria’s dominant performance throughout the competition.
Under the leadership of coach Rena Wakama, the Nigerian team secured a 78–64 victory over Mali in the final, held at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday night.
This marks the team’s fifth consecutive championship win and their seventh overall FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title.
Okonkwo had also earned MVP honors during the previous edition of the tournament, which took place in Rwanda.
At 28, she becomes only the second Nigerian player to claim back-to-back MVP awards at the Women’s AfroBasket, following in the footsteps of Mfon Udoka, who achieved the feat in 2003 and 2005.
