For assaulting a sex worker named Zainab Idris, a 19-year-old male named Dahiru Usman was given a one-month prison sentence by a Shari’a court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna.
Malam Kabir Muhammad, the presiding judge, offered Usman the opportunity to pay a N7,000 fine when delivering the verdict.
The court also mandated that he compensate Idris with N70,000 or risk a 12-month jail sentence.
On January 15, Idris, a resident of Kigo Road, submitted a report at the Sabon Gari Police Station, the prosecution, ASP Luka Sadau, informed the court.
“On that day, around 2:30 p.m., the accused and the complainant agreed to meet at a hotel on Constitution Road for a service priced at N10,000. However, a disagreement arose in the hotel room, leading Usman to assault Idris, striking her on the head with a hammer and causing injury,” Sadau explained.
The attack weapon, a hammer, was shown as evidence in court. In order to achieve justice, Sadau urged the court to compensate the victim for her losses and injuries.
