Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) is celebrating its 15th anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to promoting African fashion globally. The platform’s founder, Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, reflected on AFWL’s journey, highlighting its impact on the industry and its role in empowering creatives across the continent.

AFWL has supported the growth and international exposure of African designers, artisans, and fashion entrepreneurs since its inception. According to Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, the platform has empowered over 1,000 talents, providing them with opportunities for visibility, growth, and global engagement.

“This year marks 15 years of Africa Fashion Week London, a pioneering platform that has championed African designers when few others would,” Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi said. “In a time when the global fashion industry underestimated the value of African creativity, we chose to believe in our heritage, our people, and our power.”

The platform has not only showcased fashion but also driven cultural and economic empowerment. Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi stated that AFWL’s vision extends to promoting Africa’s creativity and couture, as well as uplifting communities through cultural and economic development.

“We’ve opened doors for over 1,000 designers and artisans, spotlighted Africa’s cultural richness, and inspired a global rethinking of what fashion can be,” she said. “We are not just a fashion event but a statement. A celebration and movement that continues to grow and redefine narratives.”

Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi added, “For 15 years, we have created platforms where designers could thrive, artisans could shine, and African fashion [could be] seen, respected, and celebrated. What started as a platform for visibility has grown into a legacy of empowerment, pride, and global impact. The best is yet to come.”

AFWL’s commitment to promoting African fashion comes as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has identified African fashion as a rising force set to become one of the world’s leading fashion influences
