Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national head of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has stated that he cannot be persuaded or purchased in politics, claiming that he has no “price tag.”
The former Kano State governor made the statement while discussing current political events, including loyalty, betrayal, and the broader political climate in Kano State.
Kwankwaso acknowledged that politics involves both successes and defeats, but cautioned that betrayal frequently elicits popular outrage, especially at a time when many Nigerians are irritated by insecurity and economic hardship.
According to him, those who renounce ideals for personal gain frequently find themselves trapped in political arrangements with no clear exit.
He was quoted as saying that treachery has continued to erode the credibility of various political platforms, and that such activities were partially responsible for the rising loss of popular support, particularly due to inadequate handling of security and economic difficulties.
Kwankwaso opposed the widely held assumption that any politician could be bought, emphasizing that his integrity was not for sale.
“People often say that everyone has a price in Nigeria. If you are searching for someone without a price tag, then come to Rabiu Kwankwaso,” he said.
The NNPP leader also described Kano’s political environment as unusual, stating that voters in the state are politically savvy and tough to persuade with money or material presents.
“Kano politics is different. Where else can someone come with bags of money and think they can simply buy people during meetings?” He asked.
He argued that if wealth had been his primary objective, he would have openly valued himself, and that no amount of money could purchase his conscience.
Kwankwaso warned both politicians and voters to avoid the lure of short-term incentives during elections, stating that such decisions frequently result in long-term pain.
“You may endure hardship for four years, then be given peanuts one day, and end up suffering for another four years,” he said.
He closed by imploring political stakeholders to remain principled and focused on the people’s long-term interests, stressing that leadership based on seduction and betrayal cannot produce sustainable growth.
