The Vice Chancellor of Kogi State University, Prof. Kehinde Eniola, has encouraged Nigerians to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance their work effectiveness. Speaking at a public lecture at Wellspring University, Prof. Eniola emphasised that there is no need to fear the emergence of AI, as robots lack the capacity to take over people’s jobs.

“AI can help promote global awareness, foster empathy and cross-cultural understanding, and support personalised learning, among other benefits,” he said. While highlighting the benefits of AI, Prof. Eniola also noted that AI has limitations, saying, “AI lacks capacity for innovative responses to novel situations, lacks capacity for critical thinking, and cannot generate new knowledge on its own.”

Prof. Eniola emphasised that human centricity is a major feature of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR), which encourages collaboration and combining expertise from various fields. He said, “Human centricity is one of the major features of the 4IR, noting that it also encourages collaboration and combining expertise from various fields.”

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Wellspring University, Prof. Isaac Ajayi, said that AI is rapidly transforming the world and opening up new avenues in education. “Artificial intelligence rapidly transforms the world; it also opens up new avenues in education, breaking down barriers, enhancing accessibility, and enabling more personalised and scalable learning experiences,” he said.

Prof. Ajayi added that AI challenges everyone to think ethically, globally, and humanely about the future they are building. “Today’s lecture is an opportunity for all of us—educators, researchers, students, and members of the wider community—to engage with these important issues that have been raised,” he said. “It is a time to reflect, to learn, and to be inspired.”

Prof. Ajayi also highlighted the importance of public lectures in a university setting, saying, “Public lectures hold a special place in the life of a university. They serve as open platforms where ideas can be shared, challenged, and refined, not only within the academic community but also with the broader society we serve.
