Air Peace on Saturday stated that it stood by its decision to cancel or delay certain flights, emphasizing that protecting human lives and adhering to aviation safety standards remain its top priority.

This was shared in a statement from Ejike Ndiulo, Head of Corporate Communications at the airline, based in Lagos.

While expressing understanding for passengers affected by the disruptions, the airline explained that all flight cancellations and delays were driven by safety concerns.

It emphasized that operations would not proceed if weather conditions, technical issues, or other operational factors failed to meet safety requirements.

“It is not our policy to delay or cancel flights without due cause, and when we do, we are often the greater loser financially.

“We will never sacrifice safety for convenience, comfort, speed or profit,” it said.

The airline expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for urging enhancements in its domestic flight services.

It also commended the regulator’s role in enforcing compliance with international aviation safety practices.

The carrier clarified that it possesses more aircraft than those currently assigned to operate daily flights.

“Therefore, any delays or cancellations we have experienced have absolutely nothing to do with fleet shortage.

“For instance, on Friday, one of our aircraft experienced a bird strike, which damaged the engine while landing in Enugu.

“The aircraft was immediately grounded and withdrawn from operation in accordance with safety protocol,” it added.

According to the airline, the aircraft had been scheduled for multiple flight routes, and its unexpected withdrawal led to a chain reaction of schedule disruptions.

The NCAA had, on Friday, met with the airline’s management regarding the volume of passenger complaints related to flight delays and cancellations.
