At Asaba airport, an Air Peace aircraft struck an antelope, seriously damaging the aircraft and interfering with flight.
The accident was reported on X on Sunday by Michael Achimugu, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s (NCAA) director of public affairs and consumer protection.

“Monitoring reports yesterday indicated that an Air Peace aircraft ran into a large antelope, decimating the animal and leaving the aircraft AOG (aircraft on ground),” Achimugu said.

“As a result, flights meant to be operated by this aircraft would naturally be disrupted, even though engineers are on the ground to assess and fix the plane. Passengers waiting would naturally be infuriated.

“Incidents like this are literal illustrations of the disruptions NOT caused by the airlines (domestic or international).

“This explainer is for illustration purpose, not to excuse airlines when they fail to do their duties to passengers.”

Notwithstanding these circumstances, Achimugu stated that the airline still owes its customers information, reimbursements, and other benefits to which they are legally entitled, and that failure to give these could result in penalties.

A week had passed since the NCAA requested that Air Peace resolve its persistent flight cancellations and delays.

In order to lessen the situation, NCAA Director-General (DG) Chris Najomo suggested that the airline scale back operations to the number of planes that were available.

Air Peace, however, denied reports of an aircraft scarcity and stated that safety concerns were the reason for the cancellation and postponement of some of its flights.
