Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been characterized as corrupt by Atiku Abubakar, a former presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akpabio, according to Atiku, is a dishonest leader who has a track record of mistreating women.

In reaction to the accusations of sexual harassment against Akpabio and the National Assembly’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s proclamation of a state of emergency in Rivers State, the former vice president made this statement.

Atiku in an interview with Untold Stories’ Adesuwa Giwa-Osagiesaid: “Not only is he corrupt, but he is also in the habit of abusing women.

“I was not surprised that the state of emergency passed in the National Assembly because I know that the leadership is corrupt, and I have no apologies for saying that. They could do anything.

“The Senate President has been known for such behavior even when he was a governor.”

Akpabio was recently accused of sexual harassment by Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Natasha said that because she refused his sexual advances, the Senate President mistreated her and denied her certain rights.

The political dispute between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, prompted Tinubu to proclaim a state of emergency in Rivers State amid these accusations.

The two became embroiled in a dispute that reached the state House of Assembly.

Martins Amaewhule blocked Fubara from entering the complex to deliver the 2025 budget, indicating that tensions remained in spite of a Supreme Court decision.

Tinubu proclaimed a state of emergency in Rivers State, appointed a single administrator, and suspended Fubara for six months as a result of the ongoing conflict.

The president’s proclamation was subsequently adopted by the National Assembly.
