President Bola Tinubu has urged a United States federal court to reject a new application by American transparency activist Aaron Greenspan seeking to introduce additional records in a lawsuit over access to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) files connected to an earlier narcotics investigation.

The objection was filed on October 15, 2026, before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, where Greenspan is pursuing the release of documents relating to investigations involving Tinubu and other individuals in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

According to court filings, Tinubu’s legal representatives challenged Greenspan’s request for the court to take judicial notice of further public records concerning alleged hacking activities, criminal proceedings and media reports.

Greenspan submitted the application on October 8, seeking to use the additional materials in support of a separate request for permission to conduct limited discovery from Tinubu.

However, the President’s lawyers argued that the documents failed to demonstrate the connection Greenspan was attempting to establish between the alleged hacking activities and his ongoing legal proceedings.

They also questioned the timing of the application, noting that it was filed more than a week after Greenspan had submitted his reply in support of the discovery request.

Tinubu’s legal team further maintained that the 176 pages of additional documents cited by Greenspan were already publicly available and should have been presented in his earlier court filings.

The lawyers also argued that the existence of such materials does not automatically make the claims contained in them admissible as evidence.

“News articles are not appropriate for judicial notice for the truth, content, or veracity of their claims,” the lawyers argued.
