Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, has received a significant investment of $15 million from alumna and trustee emerita Mary Lou Cornwall Hawkes (’65) and her husband, James B. Hawkes. The donation will support the college’s physician assistant programme, a newly established two-year curriculum focused on promoting inclusive healthcare.
The investment will establish a $10 million endowment to ensure the programme’s long-term financial stability. Additionally, $5 million will be used to renovate Hopkins Hall, the programme’s home, with state-of-the-art technology and advanced instructional facilities.
The programme is expected to matriculate its first class in October 2026 and has applied for provisional accreditation. Mary Lou and Jim Hawkes expressed their enthusiasm for the investment, saying, “In making this investment, we knew it would benefit everyone—the college, students, and society. Our long history with Agnes Scott has shown us the exceptional strength of its programmes, which open doors of opportunity for students. We are proud to support a programme that will have a lasting impact at the college, in our communities, and beyond.
