According to the Nigerian Tribune, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the largest Igbo sociocultural organisation, has sharply criticised recent remarks made by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transport, on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The group voiced significant concern about Amaechi’s purported call to use force to remove Tinubu from office by 2027. Ohanaeze condemned these utterances as dangerous and undemocratic, claiming that they endanger national stability and could encourage violence throughout the country.

As part of its response, Ohanaeze has promised to mobilise Igbos in the nineteen Northern states to support President Tinubu’s administration and re-election campaign.

The organisation stated that they would fight tirelessly to assure Tinubu’s win in the next election, emphasising the necessity for political stability over divisive opposition tactics.

They feel that Igbo unity and smart partnerships will be critical in ensuring Tinubu’s long-term leadership.

The organisation also backed Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawelle, Minister of State for Defence, who had previously requested Amaechi to withdraw his words. Ohanaeze reiterated the minister’s position, saying that no one, regardless of political influence, is above the law.

The group emphasised the significance of upholding democratic ideals and urged all political actors to prioritise constructive participation over provocative rhetoric.

Ohanaeze also criticised the present opposition, calling it as weak, disorganised, and unable to mount a genuine challenge to Tinubu in 2027.

They stated that instead of inciting violence, opposition representatives should focus on developing a powerful, issue-based campaign.

According to the group, the opposition’s divided nature greatly decreases their chances of winning in the upcoming election.

In addition to political mobilisation, Ohanaeze urged the Federal Government and the Ministry of Defence to be cautious against any attempts to destabilise the country.

They encouraged security agencies to take aggressive measures to prevent violence and protect Nigeria’s democratic institutions. The group thinks that maintaining peace and national unity should be the paramount goal of all stakeholders. Ohanaeze reaffirmed its resolve to working closely with Dr. Matawelle and other key figures to ensure Tinubu’s landslide win in 2027.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo unequivocally announces its intent to mobilize and galvanize the Igbo population residing in the nineteen Northern States to stand firmly alongside Dr. Bello Matawelle.”

“Together, we shall ensure that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not only maintains his office but secures a resounding victory in the forthcoming elections.”

“To the opposition politicians who delight in fantasies of seizing power through chaos, let it be known that the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Defence, must remain vigilant against any attempts to incite disorder,” the group said.
