A recent social media video clip showed Mr. Soludo standing in front of a man dressed like a native doctor who seemed to be predicting the governor’s reelection.
Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has denied rumors that he sought advice from a local physician in order to win reelection.
The video stoked rumors that the governor asked a local physician about the chances of winning reelection.
However, in a statement released on Wednesday by his spokeswoman, Christian Aburime, Mr. Soludo called the rumors “completely untrue.”
“For the interest of the general public, the video clip being maliciously circulated and misrepresented, as evidence of native doctor consultation, was taken during a recent official government meeting with Anambra-based content creators,” he said.
The governor pointed out that the video footage was merely a skit that was captured at the conference when the content creators were requested to demonstrate their skills.
“As part of the presentations, one of the content creators performed a native doctor skit, a common comic genre in Nigerian entertainment, to demonstrate their creative abilities to the governor and other officials present,” he stated.
“This was purely an entertainment performance by a content creator, not a consultation session.”
In order to mislead Nigerians, Mr. Soludo said it was “deeply disappointing” that his detractors and political rivals would “deliberately fabricate malicious narratives” from the skit.
In order to win reelection, the governor stated that he was concentrating on fostering Anambra’s creative economy through investment plans rather than seeking advice from local physicians.
He claimed that rather than seeking advice from local physicians, he depends “only” on the assistance of Anambra natives.
Mr. Soludo emphasized that he would not let the antics of desperate political rivals behind the fabrications distract him from his development tasks.
“Therefore, the Anambra State Government calls on Ndi Anambra, media channels and social media users to disregard the misinformation concerning the circulated video clip.
“The public is also urged to always verify information before sharing or amplifying content and reject malicious stories sponsored to mislead the public,” he said.
