Human rights activist Osita Obi has issued an unexpected call to action, asking candidates running for governor of Anambra State on November 8, 2025, to drop out of the race.

Obi stated that the candidates should instead support incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo by allocating their funds to the state’s security endowment fund.

On Tuesday, Obi, a long-time supporter of good administration in Awka, pointed to his own experience overseeing Soludo’s initiatives as proof of the governor’s dedication to the growth of the state.

He thinks there is no need for candidates in the next election given Soludo’s current success.

Obi responded to criticism, especially those who supported Rev. Fr. Ebube Muonso, by defending his image as a committed activist and pointing to his prior work in the state to advance local government elections while Peter Obi was governor.

He also mentioned his noteworthy success in advocating for a consistent supply of electricity in Awka, which resulted in the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) suing him for N100 million. The litigation is still pending in a federal high court.

Obi stressed that while he acknowledged Rev. Fr. Ebube Muonso’s right to call for increased public security, it is crucial to do so politely and respectfully rather than by attacking the governor personally.
