Mr. John Nwosu, a candidate for governor of Anambra State on the platform of the Africa Democratic Congress, ADC, claims that if elected, he will examine the tax on small companies and artisans in Anambra and put an end to insecurity.

Nwosu made this statement on Friday during the launch of the ADC Coalition’s campaign and the introduction of its candidates for the August 16 by-election and the November 8 governorship election in Onitsha.

While Mr. Chidi Amamgbo is running for the Anambra South Senatorial District, Mrs. Justina Azuka, widow of the late Mr. Justice Azuka, who represented the Onitsha 1 State Constituency before being abducted and later discovered dead, is attempting to succeed her husband.

According to Nwosu, incumbent Prof. Chukwuma Soludo should not be reelection since he has failed in the areas of security, development, and respect for traditional institutions and the rule of law.

The candidate, who accepted the party flag with Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, his running companion, claimed that Anambra was damaged and in urgent need of repair while positioning himself as a viable substitute.

“Governance is not rocket science, it is also not to try your luck or making bogus promises, if Soludo did not succeed in the first four years, he won’t succeed in another four years.

“We promise four years of seamless, transformative and adaptive governance along these lines,” he said.

Security, Health, Education, Economy, Enterprise, Market, and Social Welfare were the seven pillars of the policy thrust that the information and technology specialist outlined (SHEEEMS).

In order to eradicate insecurity, he promised to implement high-tech security infrastructure, such as fingerprint and AI-powered facial recognition cameras, as well as highly skilled and driven community-based staff.

According to him, his administration would implement e-Government so that citizens could access and monitor government services from their phones in an effort to combat corruption, increase transparency, and boost efficiency.

“It will be a government that works at the speed of technology, not the speed of paperwork.

“Within six months, we will restore peace across our communities, safety will return to our streets; traditional marriage ceremonies and festivals will return to our villages.

“The era of exploitation is over, I will abolish enforcement with pestles ‘Aka-Odo’ and review the tax system.

“We will restructure the tax system to be fair, growth-friendly, and humane; you will no longer pay to suffer.

“From my first day in office, we will cut tax tariffs and charges payable by shuttle bus and keke drivers, barrow pushers and artisans by 30 per cent.

“Our people are underserved and overtaxed, this government deployed brutality to collect revenue, and many have been maimed and some have died in the hands of these agents,” he said.

Chief Ralph Nwosu, the ADC’s immediate past national chairman, handed the party flag to the candidates and declared that the coalition would transform Anambra’s leadership narrative.

With broad support from the Labour Party, People’s Democratic Party, and other parties, Nwosu predicted that the by-elections would be the ADC Coalition’s first victory and that he would be the new governor of Anambra.

In order to support the ADC Coalition and its candidates, he urged party members to visit their polling places, wards, and local government.
