Anambra guber: AA candidate warns against vote-buying

With the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, the Action Alliance (AA) candidate, Jeff Nweke, has strongly spoken out against vote-buying, warning that it poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic progress.

Nweke made this known in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka, the state’s capital.

Referring to the August 16 by-election in Anambra, which was allegedly plagued by vote-buying, Nweke urged well-meaning Nigerians to come together in denouncing the practice, warning that silence could jeopardize the country’s future.

According to the AA flagbearer, treating votes as commodities lies at the heart of the widespread corruption ravaging the nation, and it continues to fuel various other vices affecting the country.

“It is unfortunate and shameful in Anambra today, that what we are witnessing is an acute decay of decency in our politics.

“It is a degeneration of sensible political strategy and we have become self- centered, narrow minded and morally deficient in the pursuit of our political goals,” he said.

Nweke also reaffirmed his commitment to centering his campaign on critical issues, including improving security, enhancing access to social services, prioritizing citizen welfare, and promoting transparency in governance.
