Comrade Peter Okoye, the chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State, has expressed concern about a purported danger to his life.

Okoye said that Dr. George Moghalu, the party’s candidate for governor, was attacking him.

Moghalu’s candidacy had been contested in court by Okoye. The court ordered Moghalu to cease posing as the LP’s candidate for governor after the development.

Okoye informed our correspondent that an unknown man posing as “Jack from Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area” had just called him and it was upsetting.

He claimed that the caller threatened to have serious repercussions if he did not withdraw the lawsuit against Moghalu within 48 hours.

According to him, the caller said: “If you don’t withdraw the case from court within 48 hours, I will chase you out of Anambra State. Ask them in Anambra who is Jack, I’m from Nanka. I learnt you are from Orumba. If you don’t remove that case from court, I will know whether you are mad. Are you stupid? How can you jeopardize the future of scores of young people in the state? What I’m telling you now, if you don’t remove that case from the court, you will see me — Ogbanje ga-agba gi.”

Okoye stated that he believes the call came from a supporter of the candidate for governor.

On September 8, 2025, the case was moved from the Federal High Court in Enugu to the Federal High Court in Anambra.

Moghalu, according to Okoye, is still an impostor and not the legitimate candidate of the Labour Party, which is led by Senator Nenadi Usman.

He maintained that Moghalu was supported by the party’s Julius Abure-led group, which was dismissed on April 4, 2025, and that the contentious primary poll that resulted in his victory was held on April 5, 2025.

Okoye appealed to security agencies for protection, saying: “I call on all security operatives in Anambra State to protect me and my family against George Moghalu’s attacks. He is not our candidate. Anambra voters should disregard his illegal gatherings.”

George Moghalu, who was asked to comment, denied the accusations and questioned Okoye’s assertions that he was the party’s state chairman.

“Who is Okoye? Okoye is not Labour Party Chairman in Anambra State. That’s rubbish. Let him go and report the matter to the police for investigation. If anybody is threatening him, it is not to my knowledge,” Moghalu said.

Moghalu disassociated himself from the reported phone contact from a man named Jack of Nanka, stating: “I don’t know about that. Why am I going to threaten him? It’s his fundamental right to go to court if he is aggrieved.”
