Muslim leaders in Onitsha, Anambra State, have taken advantage of the Eid-el-Fitr holiday to advocate for harmony and interfaith harmony among Nigerians.

The Kabiyesi of Yoruba in Onitsha, Alhaji Abraham Zubairu, made the plea on Monday while speaking to a few Muslims at the Eid prayer site in Onitsha.

The chairman of the Anambra State Muslim Council, Zubairu, counseled his Muslim brothers to support Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, in the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

He claimed that since Soludo became the governor of Anambra State, the Muslim community has seen many traits of a dynamic leader, including “peaceful co-existence” between the government and their host community.

He said: “For all Muslim faithful, we thank God for being alive to witness this year’s sallah, and we pray that this celebration will not be the end. We shall have cause to continue to celebrate.”

“We use the opportunity of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration to call for mutual co-existence. People should do well to tolerate people of other religions as we are all one.

“The governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has done well in ensuring our safety in Anambra State. Since he came on board he has been working tirelessly to develop the state.

“We pray that God will protect the governor and continue to give him more wisdom as he pilots the affairs of the state. We also pray for Ndi Anambra for continue prosperity and peaceful coexistence in the state.

“There have been massive road constructions and other infrastructural developments in the state since Prof. Chukwuma Soludo took over as governor, therefore the Muslim community would re-elect the governor to continue his good works in the state, I pray for Anambra State.“

Alhaji Shuaibu Eletu, the Chief Imam of Yoruba Central Mosque Onitsha, had earlier commended the connection between the state government and the Muslim community, calling Soludo a divinely appointed leader for the Anambra people.

“We are happy over the cordial and harmonious relationship that has existed between the state government and the Muslim community in the state.

“Since we have been living in this state, our leaders have never entered the Government House, but Soludo always invite all the Moslems from different parts of the state in Nnewi zone, Awka zone and Onitsha zone to the government house during sallah and gave them a warm reception,” he added.
