A disciplinary committee has been established by the Julius Abure-led section of the Labour Party to look into claims of anti-party activity against Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, and other party members.

This was revealed in a statement issued following Friday’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

According to the press release, “NEC established a disciplinary committee after reviewing the anti-party activities of Abia State Governor Alex Otti” and other dissident members.

Ayo Olorunfemi, the committee’s chair, was given two weeks to turn in its findings.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on the party’s leadership issue was also praised by the Abure-led NEC, who said it clarifies the situation.

While praising the National Working Committee under Abure’s direction, the NEC also decided that the LP would not join any coalition or combine in the run-up to the general elections in 2027 because it would not cede its leadership under any pretense.

“NEC Confirmed its directive for the issuance of NOTICE of the 2024 National Convention of the Party which NOTICE was given to INEC on 04/12/2023. NEC equally confirmed its directive for subsequent Notices of change of date and venue for the 2024 National Convention which held at Nnewi on 27/03/2024.

” NEC confirmed its ratification of the list of ADHOC delegates, elected from the Congresses in the 36 states and the FCT, to the 2024 National Convention which ratification was granted at the NEC meeting which held in Asaba on 20/03/2024.

“NEC confirmed that the 2024 National Convention was held in accordance with the CFRN, 1999, the Electoral Act, 2022, the 2019 LP Constitution, INEC Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022 and the LP Guidelines for the 2024 National Convention.

“NEC confirmed the validity of the 2024 National Convention and stands by its outcome,” the communique read in part.
