Joseph Ikpea and Omosede Igbinedion, candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have emerged victorious in the recently held bye-elections for Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency in Edo State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced both candidates as winners.

Ikpea secured the senatorial seat for Edo Central with a total of 105,129 votes, defeating his nearest opponent, Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 15,146 votes.

Professor Kingsley Ubaorji, serving as INEC’s Returning Officer for the senatorial bye-election, released the final vote tally and proclaimed Ikpea the winner on Sunday at Ubiaja, the headquarters of Esan South-East Local Government Area.

In the Ovia Federal Constituency, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion clinched victory with 77,053 votes, surpassing Johnny Aikpitanyi of the PDP, who earned 3,838 votes. Dr. Sandra Asemota of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) came in third with 925 votes.

Professor Clement Ighodalo, the Returning Officer for the Federal Constituency bye-election, declared Igbinedion the winner during the announcement held at the Ovia West Local Government council hall in Iguobazuwa.

After being declared senator-elect for Edo Central, Hon. Joseph Ikpea expressed gratitude, dedicating the win to God and to the residents of the district, who he said had “chosen vision over sentiment, progress over politics-as-usual.”

Ikpea emphasized that the outcome reflected the trust the people had placed in him and the APC’s ability to deliver, assuring them he would not let them down.

“I will work hand in hand with our governor, our party, and community leaders to ensure that every part of Edo Central feels the impact of quality representation.

“Governor Monday Okpebholo is a leader of exceptional qualities, strategic, selfless, and deeply connected to the people. His support has been a stabilising force throughout this journey.

“I promised to prioritise legislation and interventions in the areas of infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and the strengthening of traditional”, he said.
