Opposition figures have been urged not to use investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a political tool to discredit President Bola Tinubu.

This warning was issued by Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, during a media briefing on Sunday in Osogbo.

According to Oyintiloye, the EFCC’s ongoing probes into some former governors and political office holders from opposition parties are based on submitted petitions and fall within the agency’s legal responsibilities, aligning with global standards for anti-corruption efforts.

He stressed that holding a position in an opposition party does not exempt individuals from being held accountable for alleged financial misconduct when credible claims are brought forward.

He further explained that members of the APC have also been subjects of EFCC investigations whenever accusations of financial wrongdoing have emerged.

Oyintiloye emphasized that the EFCC is constitutionally empowered to investigate public officials regardless of their political affiliations and must operate impartially in upholding the law.

He advised opposition members currently under EFCC scrutiny to stop accusing the President of political persecution and instead focus on defending themselves against the allegations.

According to him, both President Tinubu and the anti-corruption body will remain undeterred by baseless claims of political witch-hunting, and will continue to act in the interest of justice and national integrity.

“The EFCC has a mandate to investigate financial infractions against anyone, irrespective of political affiliations.

“Linking the President to the investigation of alleged financial infractions by opposition members in the name of politics is totally wrong.

“Whether you are a member of the ruling party or opposition, you are not immune to financial investigation.

“I want to caution members of the opposition parties to stop politicising what the EFCC is doing and prove their innocence, if any.

“President Tinubu is a man of honour and integrity, and he will not compromise his ideals in the name of politics. So, it is no longer business as usual. More of the corrupt politicians hiding in opposition parties with the intent to blackmail the President to get themselves off the hook will still be arrested. No room for graft under the Tinubu administration,” Oyintiloye said.
